Maereg Gebregziabher Gidey

Maereg Gebregziabher has seven years of experience performing legal research on various aspects of the justice system. Currently, she is a Senior Legal Expert at the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia. Her primary responsibility is research and providing policy advice on various issues related to law and justice. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, she worked as a Researcher at the Justice and Legal Systems Research Institute of Ethiopia and the Program in Criminal Justice (PCJ) of the Harvard Kennedy School. Her research has focuses on various topics, including women’s and children’s rights, the rights of persons with disabilities, performance measurement indicators of justice institutions, and traditional justice systems. Maereg Gebregziabher Gidey obtained her LL.M in Transnational Criminal Justice and Crime Prevention from the University of the Western Cape. She is motivated to work towards advancing the rights of vulnerable groups in society and combat trans-boundary and major economic crimes. Upon completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to continue conducting research that contributes to enhancing the criminal justice system, ensuring rule of law, and improving efficiency in the administration of justice.
