Martin Butler

Martin Butler is a Senior Lecturer at the Stellenbosch University Business School,South Africa (USB) and a Research Associated at the Institute for Future Studies (IFR). He holds an Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Pretoria, an MBA with specialization in project management (Cum Laude) from the USB.Martin joined academia in 2007, after a 15 year career in the IT industry. He has successfully led various project teams in South Africa and abroad in IT and technology-intrinsic business projects during his career.Martin has an active interest in the related fields of information systems management, technology futures, project management and innovation management and lectures in these disciplines at the USB, IFR as well as in Europe and Asia.Martin Butler also consults to industry in these areas. He is currently completing his Phd with a focus on business and IT alignment.Martin is passionate about the utilisation of IT in education and strives for the innovative use technology in his own teaching. He was the driver behind the USB’s virtual classroom to simultaneously reach students in the classroom, on the internet and mobile devices, a Stellenbosch University first. Martin currently heads up the USB’s MBA programme that extended this new technology on the USB’s flagship programme.He frequently appears in the local media on matters technology, innovation and project management related and has presented papers in his areas of interest at numerous conferences locally and abroad.
