Mmakgoshi Phetla-Lekhethe
Mmakgoshi Phetla-Lekhethe was appointed to her current position in July 2009. She holds a Masters in Economics degree from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Mmakgoshi Phetla-Lekhetheworked for more than three years years as an economist at the World Bank, and served as South Africa’s representative on the board of the World Bank Group. Her current mandate includes overseeing government’s engagement and relationship with multilateral and regional development finance institutions. She is also responsible for government’s participation in the G20 and was part of the team of negotiators to the November 2010 G20 Leaders Summit in Seoul, Korea. Mmakgoshi Phetla-Lekhethe has more than 12 years’ experience in debt capital markets globally and possesses a deep understanding and knowledge of the South African and international financial market operations.
Most of her experience in economics and finance was gained at National Treasury, the South African government department tasked with the formulation of the country’s macro-economic policy and strategy, the preparation of the annual government budget and the management of its assets and liabilities.
