Mosima Poopedi

Applied Geology Honours Student University of the Western Cape

Mosima Poopedi is a student at the University of Western Cape where she is pursuing a honors degree in BSc Applied Geology. She is a recipient of the Mining Qualification Authority scholarship which focuses on helping upcoming graduates in bridging them with mining companies. She was born and bred in the Limpopo province, Moletjie Moshate, located North East of South Africa.

In her studies, Mosima is focusing on finding new unconventional and sustainable methods to introduce to the future of the mining industry of South Africa, and the African  continent as a whole. Her interest in these subjects stem from her goal of communicating change from traditional mining to modern mining. She is also very passionte about positively contributing to the ongoing movement of more women in the mining sector.

Mosima is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists organization (AAPG). She is currently playing a role of a Social Media Director for the universities AAPG committee, where she is responsible for engaging students in important conversations about research projects around the world through media. Mosima aspires to be an adaptible and interdisciplinary skilled geologist of the future through active learning. She has intentions of gaining experience in mining and applying the knowledge she has gained
