Murendeni Makhado
Murendeni Makhado is a highly trained professional, passionate about driving growth through best practices in ESG. She currently holds the following positions:
· Corporate Water Specialist at Implats Holdings which is one of the largest PGM-producing companies globally. In this role, she is responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of water stewardship strategies, policies and plans to enable the Group to meet its water objectives and targets.
· Vice Marketing Lead within the International Water Association – Southern Africa division committee, a not-for-profit organization and knowledge hub for the water sector, connecting water professionals and companies to find solutions to the water challenges in the Southern African region.
· Member of Topco’s Future of Sustainability advisory board. The Future of Sustainability promotes sustainable and transparent business practices, aiming to provoke responsible corporate citizenship and sustainable development – from individual to institutional level
· 2023 Mandela Washington Fellow, a flagship fellowship programme of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) sponsored by the United States Government.
· Murendeni further has a vested interest in the development of women and promoting the increased representation of women in the mining sector through her role as Membership Lead for Women in Mining South Africa (WIMSA). This is a non-profit organisation that creates an empowering network to inspire, support and develop the progression of women working in the South African mining industry.
Murendeni is a passionate young leader who has a strong interest in the continual improvement of her skills and the continual improvement of those around her. She is a strong advocate for responsible water stewardship in the mining industry and for the increased representation and promotion of women in the South African mining industry and continually dedicates her time to giving back and investing in others.
She holds an MBA in international business, Post Grad diploma in international business and an honours degree in Environmental and Geographical sciences. She is a member of the Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA) and is a Certified Manager with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) UK.
