Mziwonke Dlabantu

Mr Mziwonke Dlabantu was appointed director-general in the Department of Public Works in January 2013. His career started in Bisho in the Eastern Cape as an articled clerk at Accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, which is now part of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, in 1988. He joined the Department of State Expenditure, which is now known as National Treasury, and served as director of fiscal affairs transport and communication. Next he went to the Department of Housing, now known as the Department of Human Settlements, where he was chief financial officer at chief director level from 2000 to 2005. In February 2003 he was appointed acting deputy director-general: strategic support, at the same department and from 2005 to 2010 occupied the post of chief financial officer at deputy director-general level.

At various stages of his career at both the departments of Human Settlements and Defence, Dlabantu was appointed acting director-general and acting secretary of defence respectively. He was chief financial officer at deputy director-general level at the Department of Defence from 2010 to 2012 before joining the Department of Public Works.
