Narcizio Makwakwa
Director – Large Business & International South African Revenue Services
Narcizio Makwakwa is currently employed at the South African Revenue Services (SARS) as the Director of the Large Business and International (LB&I) unit (formerly the Large Business Centre), which is located in Woodmead, Sandton. Narcizio was instrumental in the re-establishment of the LB&I which provides an end-to-end service ensuring an elevated focus on its target segment.
In July 2008 Narcizio Makwakwa joined SARS as the National Excise Manager at the Pretoria Head Office. He was responsible for the National Excise Projects including specific excise duties, ad valorem duties and various levies such as environmental and electricity levies. In 2009, he was appointed as Executive for Indirect Taxes and Other taxes, which included VAT, Excise, Transfer Duties, Turnover Tax and other minor taxes. In 2015, he was then appointed Executive for SMME and VAT, a position he held until 2018.
When a decision was made to reinstitute the Large Business Centre, Narcizio was redeployed to head a project to re-establish this unit. He was then appointed Director for LB & I in 2021. He brought with him a wealth of experience in taxation matters traversing various tax types including VAT, Corporate Tax, Personal Tax and Excise Taxes.
Prior to joining SARS, Narcizio Makwakwa was the Group Tax Manager for Edgars Consolidated Stores and as Tax Manager of The South African Breweries Limited. Prior to that, he worked for Sasol Coal, Denel and Receiver of Revenue in Limpopo. Narcizio holds a B Comm degree, Higher Diploma in Tax Law, Masters in International Tax, Diploma in Mining Taxation and Executive Development Program from Henley.
