Nelson Orgu
Nelson Orgut passed the then Prestigious East African Advanced Certificate of Education in 1971 at Kagumo High School, Kiganjo. Thereafter, in the course of his career, he attended various management training programmes carried out at the Kenya Institute of Management, MICAS, TACK Training International, Fintech Kenya, Zedezen, VAS and Ashby Pearce Management Consultants, which have built up his various managerial capacities. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and is currently pursuing full membership.
Nelson Orgu has a long and extensive experience developed for over forty years whilst in different leadership positions in the Kenyan Tea Industry, mainly while working with James Finlay (K) Ltd (known previously as African Highlands Produce Company Ltd) – and now part of the Swire Group. Nelson retired from James Finlay (K) Ltd in 2013 in the position of Operations Director, held since 2008. During his career with Finlays he served in different capacities interalia, Estate and Factory Manager, head of Factories and Marketing before assuming the role of Operations Director and overall in charge of Production, Marketing and company Corporate Affairs. While at Finlays, Nelson also played the lead role in the restructuring of field and factory operations that led to enhanced performance and profitability, placing Finlays amongst the leaders in the tea industry.
Mr. Orgut also served for many years on the management committee of EATTA (East Africa Tea Trade Association) – the organization that runs the weekly Mombasa Tea Auctions and held the position of Chairman in 2001, 2004 and 2011 to 2012.Between 2010 and 2012, he spearheaded the transition in EATTA, from a management Committee to a fully-fledged Board as it exists currently. Mr. Orgut is currently a Board Member of the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB)
