Nevan Pillay
Chief Exploration Vedanta
Nevan Pillay is a geologist who has been in the mining industry for over 20 years. He is a graduate from the University of Cape Town obtaining a Honours and Masters degree in Geology and MDP from UNISA. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa and a registered professional with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
Since completing his initial academic studies in 2000, he has worked in various positions in the mining and exploration field holding roles at junior, mid-tier and multi-national companies. Notable roles include Group Manager Geology for Norilsk Nickel responsible for their African exploration; General Manager for African Exploration and Johannesburg Office Head at Rio Tinto and HOD Mining Studies at MSA. He is currently the Head of Exploration/Chief Exploration at Vedanta Zinc International responsible for exploration projects outside of India. His commodity experience is varied with significant experience in sediment-hosted copper deposits, magmatic nickel deposits, SEDEX and MVT style lead-zinc deposits and Bushveld-related PGM deposits. He has worked mainly in Africa covering countries including Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Burundi and Angola and has evaluated projects in Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe, North America and Australia.
