PETER ZIMRI
Peter Zimri has broad experience in the information communications technology (ICT) sector and is particularly passionate about postal, telecommunications and broadcasting technical, regulatory and policy matters.
He has been chief director: radio and satellite communications at the Department of Communications and senior manager: frequency management at the South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (SATRA), a predecessor of ICASA.
During his tenure at these entities, he was involved in developing and implementing the National Table of Frequency Allocations, related policies and regulations as well as migration processes, and the licensing of radio frequency spectrum.
Zimri has not only been involved in the ICT regulatory and policy environment in South Africa, but also across markets on the continent. As consultant he has advised licensees on ICT regulatory and policy affairs to ensure that they adhere to the terms and conditions of their licences as well as other relevant legislation.
Amongst various other standards and ICT (Telecoms & Broadcasting) industry bodies, Peter served on the boards of the South African Council for Space Affairs (SACSA), Number Portability Company (NPC), and South African Communications Forum (SACF).
Peter holds a master’s degree in management in ICT policy and regulation from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Graduate School of Public and Development Management. He also holds various electronic-engineering qualifications and credits in telecoms- and broadcasting-related programmes from Wits, the University of Pretoria, the United States Telecommunication Training Institute, Telkom SA, Rohde & Schwarz and Oracle SA.
