Piet Potgieter
Piet Potgieter is the biggest Afrikaner comedian to hit South African stages in the last five years – literally. This two meter tall Dutchman from Kraaifontein has taken the local comedy scene by storm.
His funny, witty, experiential and offbeat style of comedy has made him a firm favorite for both the Afrikaans and English comedy loving crowds. Whether he’s played for 12, 000 bikers in Wynberg, 20 bergies in Obz or at a “boeredag” in Porterville the effect has remained the same, side-splitting mayhem.
Piet grew up in a small town in the Klein Karoo. He originally went to study for a “dominee” but ended up as a barman in Cape Town. After a stint as an apple farmer he started his current career in corporate business. All this influences his observational style of comedy, with hilarious results.
His comedic journey started in 2007 playing for beer in the open mike comedy circuit in Cape Town until Kurt Schoonraad, Cape Town’s favorite comedian took him under his wing and started molding his talent into the comic he is today.
Apart from regular headline performances all over South Africa, he has also managed to appear as a contestant on the program “So you think you are funny” (it was in Xhosa – he lost…) as well as being runner up in the Heart FM Cape Town’s next big comic competition in 2010.
He then diversified his act by writing his debut one man show in Afrikaans called “Scheme jy ek’s Kommin”. This show had a sold out run in Durbanville and he continues to perform the show in both English & Afrikaans at various venues and corporate functions, which led to recurring appearances on Kyknet’s comedy show “Skerp” which aired in 2012 as well as “Jou show met Emo en Wicus to name a few. He is currently touring his 2nd show that Debuted at Aardklop, “waar de hel is Witbank” to audiences all over the country.
During one of his many guest appearances on Good Hope FM’s Nigel Pierce show, Piet drew the attention of the organizers of the Vodacom Funny Festival and has subsequently been selected to represent South Africa on the main bill for the full duration of the 2012 Vodacom Funny Festival that took place at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.
Piet’s ability to entertain in both English & Afrikaans, his knowledge and experience in corporate business coupled with his comedic talent and his proven MC skills makes him the perfect corporate entertainer.
Whether you need a motivational speaker, productivity & leadership facilitator, mc or just plain stand up comedy, or even a combination, Piet Potgieter can offer the total package.
