Poppy Seed‘s poetic music speaks to and about
humanity, using Roots Rock Reggae, Jazz, and RnB flavors, in a unique
style compared to that of Sade, and Maya Angelou which connects with the
soul. Born and raised in London UK, this performance poet
extraordinaire is a well-seasoned artiste who has toured Internationally
and delighted audiences for over a decade. Her well crafted lyrics and
appealing delivery is described as being ‘On the Cusp of poetry and
Song’, and ‘Where Poetry meets Song’.
Poppy Seed is committed to Human Rights using her art to highlight Social justice campaigns; and to celebrate cultural diversity. In this light her eloquent activism has ‘won’ her title ‘Warm Revolutionary.’ Her musical compositions enhance the themes of her poetry and have coloured film soundtracks, most recently ‘Motherland’, Aouth Africa another groundbreaking award winning film by Director Owen Alik Shahada about the incredulous journey of African people.. She has won awards including Best Poet from Black Women in the Arts UK, Farrgo Poetry Slam UK, and ‘The Nina Simone Award f or Black Women in Jazz’ 2009. She was nominated again for this award in 2011.
