René Hochreiter
René has worked in the mining, and mining financial, services industries for 32 years. After graduating at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1979 (Geology) and 1982 (Mining), René joined Rustenburg Platinum Mines (now Anglo Platinum) where he was involved in a feasibility study and mining production over a period of 7 years. He joined Anderson Wilson & Partners, a stockbroking firm, in 1987 where he became a partner in 1990.
In 1995, Anderson Wilson was bought out by Standard Bank and after 2 years with Standard Bank, René moved to stockbrokers Barnard Jacobs Mellet (BJM). In 2002 he joined BOE (later taken over by Nedbank), first in the securities division, and then, in 2005, in investment banking. As an investment banker at Nedbank, René was responsible for transactions valued at R12 billion in various mining deals. In November 2006, René joined James Allan & Associates (as it was then known) and his first deal with James was completed before Christmas of that year. Since then, the company (now known as Allan Hochreiter) has completed deals with virtually all listed platinum explorers. In addition, numerous valuations and platinum market presentations have been done. René has, arguably, the best insight into the platinum mining business and corporate activity in South Africa, and globally. He also has good insight into the iron-ore, manganese, chromite, antimony, copper, nickel, fluorspar and diamond sectors.
