Richard Michael Levin
Professor Michael Levin was appointed director-general in March 2012.
He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Political Theory and Institutions from the University of Liverpool, a BA (Hons) in Development Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), and is a graduate of the senior executive programme from Harvard and the Wits.Before joining the Commission, he served as Director-General for Public Service and Administration and was tasked with establishing the Depar tment, setting up corporate governance processes and staffing. Professor Levin was also mandated to lead the Department in the implementation of the New Growth Path and the creation of decent work.
He was instrumental in the national macro re-organisation of the State. He is an accomplished scholar and a visiting professor at the University of Pretoria and Wits. Professor Levin previously held various academic positions at Wits, the University of Swaziland and the University of Liverpool.
