Sanusi Mohammed Ohiare
Sanusi Mohammed Ohiare is a rural electrification expert and advocate. Sanusi Mohammed Ohiare has over 10 years of experience advising public and private entities on electricity access planning, mini-grid regulations, renewable energy policies and data management system for unelectrified communities in Nigeria. In April, 2017, he was appointed by the Nigerian President as the Executive Director, REF Management, Rural Electrification Agency. Before then, he was a rural electrification advisor under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme of GIZ, a programme co-funded by EU and German Government. Since 2008, over 100 people have benefitted from Sanusi’s free mentoring under his mass literacy initiative in his community. Sanusi holds a BSc in Economics from University of Jos – Nigeria, MSc in Energy Finance from the University of Dundee, Scotland and PhD in Rural Energy Development from De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Sanusi plans to intensify his campaign for electricity access for the rural poor in Nigeria and attract global funds into the REF.
