Sedireng Serumola
Sedireng Serumola is the Assistant General at Debswana. He has over 20 years of progressive mining, diamond processing and project management experience gained in government, integrated engineering consultancy and production environments. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mining Engineering (Mineral Processing Option) from Queen’s University in Canada and an MSc in Engineering Management from the University of Cape Town.
He started his career with the Department of Mines and a few years later joined Geofl UX Consulting Engineers as a Process Engineer. Serumola joined Debswana – Jwaneng Mine in 2004 and has made a significant contribution to the success of Jwaneng Mine, both from a leadership and technical perspectives. In 2007, he initiated and led a diverse team of engineers in designing and construction of slimes dams using waste rocks which became a game changer for Jwaneng Mine by significantly reducing the risks associated with the operation of slimes dams.
Between 2013 and 2018, he held the position of Senior Ore Processing Manager in Ore Processing department where he led a diverse team of engineers and metallurgists to achieve excellent results in the operation and maintenance of all diamond processing plants at Jwaneng Mine. In 2015, Serumola led yet another cross-functional team to develop and launch a new behavioural safety program called Remmogo.
As Assistant General Manager, his primary responsibilities are in managing people, safety, production (Mining, Processing, MRM and Engineering) and business intelligence. Key to these deliverables are championing the Trade Union-Management consultative forum at Jwaneng Mine. He successfully transitioned Cut 8 from Contractor to Owner Mining and started Cut 9 through a contractor mining. Through his energy and focused engagement of Jwaneng Mine employees and business partners, he has influenced a positive safety culture of ownership and genuine care for people.Sed has also undergone several leadership development programs including the prestigious Executing
Strategy for Results from London Business School. Sed is married to Francinah Tjitjindua and they have two children.
