Sipho George Nene
Sipho George Nene was appointed to his current position in July 2004. He holds diplomas in secondary school teaching from the University of Zululand, and in Political Studies from the Aonsu Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria. Ambassador Nene’s in-service training includes diplomatic training at the Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as in techniques of development diplomacy (Germany), diplomacy in international trade (Norway), and the code and conduct of diplomacy United Kingdom. Before joining the Department, Ambassador Nene was appointed ANC chief representative to Nigeria and was also accredited to Benin, Togo and Ghana.
Sipho George Nene was the first South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, and was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. Ambassador Nene has served on the boards of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and the Central Emergency Response Fund, and was a focal point member of the India- Brazil-South Africa dialogue forum.
