Sophia Nkatha Gitonga

Sophia Nkatha Gitonga has over four years of experience in community development, peacebuilding, and political leadership. She is currently a development projects assistant for the Senate’s deputy speaker, Senator Tharaka of Nithi County, Kenya. In her role, Sophia Nkatha Gitonga focuses on research, partnerships, and monitoring and evaluation of development projects. Sophia is the founder of Rural Development and Leadership Initiatives (RUDELI), where she coordinates leadership development programs for young women in rural areas. Sophia holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Public Relations and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Public Policy and Management. She was a university student leader. During the previous election, she was a youth coordinator for a presidential candidate. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Sophia plans to continue working on community development and advocacy, with the ultimate goal of improving livelihoods and inclusion through sustainable rural development.
