Sophie Ndaba
Sophie Ndaba a seasoned, stylish and certainly one of the most successful actresses of our time was born in Soweto. She has taken her popularity with the viewers of Generations and has established herself as an actress, a role model and an emerging creative business woman of good standing amongst South Africans.
After coming back to South Africa from Zimbabwe where she did her O levels, Sophie had made a decision to take her life to another level and was determined to make it a resounding success, which is when she became a photographic model.
She then moved on to acting in a few television series such as: Class of 92, supporting roles in Thlaranthlope and Yizo Yizo 1. This was complemented by her cameo appearances in Egoli 1992 and later Soul City.
1993 marked the dawn of her main break when she landed the role of Queen Sebobe on Generations – the number one soapie in South Africa. Sophie affirms that she has grown in the soapie over the past 19years.
In recognition of her excellence and popularity with her fans as the character Queen over the years Sophie has been nominated for various awards including: People Magazine Crystal Awards in 2003, 2004 and 2005,2008 Elle Sunday Times Style Awards in the category of Most Stylish Actress in a soapie 2003, Safta Best Soap Actress in 2006, the former Duku Duku Awards for Best Soap Actress 2002, 2003 and 2006.
She went on to win the following awards: Duku Duku Award for Best Soap Actress in 2003, Star in You Kids Award for Favourite Soap Actress 2006 and was also nominated in 2004. Latest Nominations for 2008 are YOU Magazine Spectacular Awards for Favourite Actress AND Most Popular Celebrity also People Magazine Crystal Awards as Best Soap Atress! Won Favourite Actress award at the 2008 YOU Magazine Spectacular Awards. Won best Comic actor Award for the Golden horn awards 2009. Most recent nomination for awards for YOU Magazine Spectacular Awards for Most Popular Female Celeb in SA category and Favorite Actress Category!
Her talent for entertaining is not limited to acting she is also a motivational speaker and now and again serves as an MC/Programme director for various functions.
Sophie’s reach extends outside the world of television and she plays a leadership role for many organizations such as; being an ambassador for Department of Health, Northern Cape Province, Mogale City , Celebrity Housing Built in Association with National Ministry of Housing and being a patron for University of Johannesburg Panorama Res for Girls. Patron for 5 a day for better health. She has recently endorsed brands like Blackberry, Old Mutual for “Pay When you can insurance” and has Hosted their “Soul Sessions” that are currently Hosted around the country and Brand Pep.
She feels strongly in giving back to the community so she has embarked on a meaningfully supportive role to a number of charities over the years. These include Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, Mndeni Children’s Home, Reach for a Dream and Cancer Shavathon and has launched The “Sophie Ndaba Foundation of hope” and its Focus is raising funds to ensure Orphanages are HOME for the Orphans as she grew up in an Orphonage herself and also programmes supporting the progression of women and children fdrom previously disadvantaged backrounds.
Finally, her passion for creativity, excellence and working with people are the drivers behind her emerging successful business as an event & wedding planner for 15 years and interior décor specialist.
Having been in the entertainment industry and graced our screens for the past 20 years, Sophie went on to move her career in the Arts to another level where she 2 years ago formed a production company SOPHLA MEDIA where she has begun to produce road shows or Top Brands and also now focusing on producing reality TV Shows, Magazine Show, and small and big screen movies.
