Stogie T

Stogie T is a prominent South African rapper who is cited as a pioneer of  South African Hip Hop Music. Born in exile in Tanzania in 1981, Stogie T returned to Soweto, South Africa in 1992. Formerly known as MC Fatboy then Tumi from the Volume, Stogie T is an MC/Poet who has done countless work on the Johannesburg and world hip-hop scene.

Member of the 9-piece crew P.E.R.M., which included Zee, Strawmoon, Space2wice, Kju52, Richard The 3rd, McWillie, Neo Shamiyaa and Diliseng, the group released an album in 2001 titled “APT: An Artistic Representation of Truth” which was well received. That same year Tumi released his debut album “The Tao of Tumi” as well as publishing his book, a collection of poems, called “The Black Inside Out”.

2002 saw the vinyl/CD release of his EP “A Dream Led to this” on Nuffsaid Recordings in Australia, as well as further cooperations with Australian MC/Producer Prowla.

Front man for the band Tumi & The Volume, a creative joint venture between Tumi, Tiago and Paulo from 340ml, Dave and Kyla, joining forces in 2002 the band has had immense success with the release of their debut live album “At The Bassline” in 2004, including three nominations for South African Music Awards (SAMA).

The group’s self-titled sophomore effort and first studio album was released in 2006 with distribution in Canada and Germany as well.

Founding his own label Motif Records in 2006, Tumi has released a compilation “Ke Sho Case Showcase”, as well as his second solo LP “Music from my good eye” in 2007.

Various collaborations and full length albums followed, amongst them Tumi & The Volume albums, and the first release off the Motif Records/Sony Music Joint Venture 2010 full LP release “WHOLE WORLDS” and Tumi & The Volume’s “Pick A Dream” on Sakifo Records.

Motif records has had artists like Reason and Riky Rick signed under it. Stogie T has released albums such as Honey and Pain, Stogie T, Thank Da King and featured on Sway In The Morning Radio Show,
