Sumayya Khan

Ms Sumayya Kahn was appointed to her current position in March 2010. She qualified as an educator at the former University of Durban-Westville, specialising in Physical Education. Ms Khan also holds diplomas in further education and sports management, together with certificates in leadership, sports coaching and administration – including a sports administrator’s course accredited by the International Olympic Committee.She is a former chief director at Sport and Recreation, and Head of Department at the Department of Sport and Recreation in KZN. Ms Kahn started her career as a physical education teacher and taught for 17 years at both primary and secondary level.

She has served as the team manager for the Under-19 KZN women’s cricket team and on the National Sports Council development committee in KZN. During her tenure at the Department of Sport and Recreation in KZN, the Department won the bronze (2008) and silver awards (2009) at the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards focusing on Batho Pele.
