Teekay

Teekay

Teekay, fresh out of the Vaal Triangle township of Sasolburg, South Africa ,a youngster who has earned his stripes in the township Hip Hop underground scene. Teekay born Diphapang Mashoenyane was discovered by Arthur Mafokate while performing at an Anti-Piracy Campaign he had attended. He made him repeat his freestyle performance on stage. By then Teekay was known in the Vaal for his lyrical prowess and being one of the few rappers that are proud to be rapping in the Sesotho dialect.

Teekay released a single called “Headphones” which had a music video that was on high rotation on SABC TV music programmes. He is back with a brand new single titled “Santhao”  where his lyrical prowess and writing style seem to have gone a up a notch. The song is laced with a heavy Sotho dialect which reflects his background. He is an innovative artist who knows when to change his style, flow or musical direction for relevancy. The lyrics are more easy, fun and his recent flow and wordplay packs a punch.  Teekay’s music has ingredients of a great album with standout songs like “Going in”, “Ke nnete”, “Get your swag on” and “Mbadambada”.

He is just not an average rapper but stands out by contributing immensely in the composition and crafting of his entire album. His songs are about fun, disappointment, victory and motivation and a whole lot of social ills. 999 Music is serious about this album in such a way that Teekay has already shot a video of the single “Santhao” which will be released shortly.

A marketing campaign which involves a massive airplay and a street team for branding and visibility is in the pipeline. Teekay has a mentor and businessman in Arthur Mafokate which bodes well for his musical career going forward. He is going to be part of an extensive campus tour called” Can Do Refresh Tour” which will make him travel countrywide. His intoxicating but well crafted beats and lyrics are going to take the country by storm. Watch out for Top Shotta.
