Thabo Matlaba

Born in Tembisa, “Festival” was spotted by Steve Komphela during a Nedbank Cup match between Black Leopards and his local team M Tigers FC. After trials at Free State Stars, the tireless defender started his professional career against Santos. He joined Orlando Pirates from Free State Stars in 2012.

Thabo says, “To be a Pirates’ player and honour the badge, players have to be at their best all the time”, and this is what he strives to do every day. Outside of football, Thabo wants to prepare his after-career and would like to go back to studying as education is key for his future
