Themba Makamo

Themba is a Journalism graduate. What makes Themba special is not just one particular attribute but a combination of so many. His ability to lead from behind is extraordinary. He wants his team to take the lead while he guides them. It’s an attribute that very few people have. The other remarkable attribute that makes him stand out is his resilience. His ability to soldier on and stick to the plan and the goal despite the challenges and difficulties that come with being a business owner and a leader is admirable and something we all learn from. Above all else, Themba is not just a leader and a business owner but a vessel that wants to be used to impact the lives of people. His goal is to employ and change the lives of as many people as possible.

Themba started out as a journalist and but always wanted to pursue business. He then quit his job to be an entrepreneur. He went on to start various businesses including a house number signage business, PR company and a tombstone business. In 2021, Themba started VAYA Footwear, a footwear company which is currently selling sneakers. VAYA currently employs young people, has 3 stores and counting.

Themba provides job opportunities to people in his community and is very nurturing and patient about it. We know that most young people that live in our communities lack the necessary skill and knowledge to make a living and better their lives. He affords young people the opportunity to learn and earn and does so with so much understanding and warmth regardless of their educational background. He is an usher at his church. He believes that we are all here to serve others and that everyone is carrying something that the world needs.

He is a great story teller and very humorous. Given the opportunity to tell his story, everyone he’s telling it to will be in awe. Lastly, He is a great human being that tries to live a life full of purpose.
