Thembeka Mnguni

Thembeka Mnguni

Thembeka Mnguni, 33, is originally from Bizana, but has been residing in Durban since she was a child. She is first a mother to her 5-year-old son who is autistic, whom she draws much inspiration. The powerful singer considers herself to be a ‘Diva’ by profession through her music by choosing to represent all the Divas who are scared to take a chance in life.

Thembeka Mnguni worked in the corporate world as a recruitment specialist before joining The Voice SA, but music has been in her background for some time. She toured the world with theatre impresario Pieter Toerien’s productions of the musicals Grease and High School Musical and she was also nominated for a Naledi Award for Best Newcomer.

She has always known she wanted to be a musician, having entered Idols SA twice then X-Factor. Disappointed by not advancing further in both competitions, she felt The Voice SA was her very last attempt at pursuing her musical ambitions. After much persuasion from a friend of hers, she decided to go and try it out one more time. She admits she really didn’t want to enter purely because she was scared of being rejected again. Thankfully for all music lovers, she excelled through the mentorship of coach Karen Zoid and had the backing of the crowds to advance her to be a Top 8 Finalist! She exclaims “I am so glad I took that chance again and making it to the finals”. Her musical talent speaks for itself and gained her a recording contract with Universal Music.

She would love to collaborate with her former coach Karen Zoid, Thandiswa Mazwai and Kwesta or Caspper Nyovest. She wishes to bring RnB soul music to South Africa as the likes of Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Tina Turner and like our very own, now deceased, TK. “South Africans have an amazing ear for good music. They are ready for that and I will give it to them with pleasure!”
