Toya Delazy

Toya Delazy

Toya Delazy, Her name is Latoya Buthelezi, but musically she goes by Toya Delazy. She has a humble upbringing – went to a convent hostel. This is where she was introduced to her love of the piano.

Toya Delazy chose to study Jazz piano, although I failed the first year and was encouraged to give it up. Essentially it was great, it worked out that way because she now has ‘A Story’ and all those moments made her who she is today and helped her to get signed on the 19th of April 2011 to Sony Music Africa. She didn’t even know she was being watched next thing she is flying up to Joburg, meeting the heads of Sony Africa.

Her music is innovative and adventurous with the single “Pump it On” from her debut album Due Drop Deluxe sending reverberations throughout the industry and in the charts; it also received more than 68000 hits on YouTube causing her to be thrust straight into the limelight. Her second single “Love is in the Air” is one of the highest ranked songs on Top40 charts across radio stations nationwide.

She cites her ‘blow up’ moment as her solo performance at the 2011 Africa Concert, filmed live in Johannesburg and broadcast across the African continent. This performance saw her to take the same stage that was graced by artists such as Baba Maal, Habib Koite, The Mahotela Queens & Tumi and The Volume. She was previously nominated in the Video of the Year category at the 2012 Channel O Music Video Awards. In 2013 she, alongside Donald, was nominated for a BET award against Nigeria’s 2Face Idibia and Ice Prince, Ghana’s R2Bees and Radio, and Weasel from Uganda.
