Tulimelila Patience Prewett Shityuwete

Tulimelila Patience Prewett Shityuwete has over 20 years’ experience in dance, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Dance and Anthropology from the University of Cape Town. During the past six years Tuli has had extensive experience in entrepreneurship, human rights and development work, and has previously coordinated and administrated the rollout of an 18-organization LGBTI program across Africa. Currently, Tulimelila Patience Prewett Shityuwete is the director of Namibia’s first contemporary dance company and studio, First Rain Dance Theatre (FRDT), where she and her business partner run a traineeship program for young dancers as well as running a private dance studio and business. Tuli continues to work passionately toward the recognition of LGBTI rights in southern Africa as a master trainer of a personalized Freirian LGBTI workshop; Lilo. Upon her return to Namibia after the completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Tuli intends to broaden FRDT’s traineeship program and bring dance into Namibian schools.
