Uvekka Rangappa
Uveka Rangappa is currently the evening prime time anchor on eNCA’s ‘South Africa Tonight’, after nearly 6 years of co-anchoring Morning News Today with Dan Moyane.
She’s had an extensive career in both radio and television.
She began her broadcasting career at Lotus FM at the SABC and then moved to East Coast Radio in Durban where she delivered the news on their daily breakfast aft show. After a move to Johannesburg in 2002, she became the prime time news anchor – on both afternoon drive and breakfast – for both Talk Radio 702 and 94.7. Uveka has worked with radio greats such as Alex Jay, John Robbie and David O’ Sullivan. She has also presented ‘Rights and Recourse’ on SABC 3 and the parenting show ‘Great Expectations’ on eNCA for five years.
Uveka has had the pleasure and honour of interviewing various high-profile figures in her career such as former Presidents and Celebrities plus ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Her coverage of post war Iraq is among her toughest but strongest memories. That, together with a traumatic experience involving her family, led her to her current work with the ‘charity Rise Against Hunger’.
Uveka believes journalism is “not about ME….it’s about who I can help!” Her job is about making a difference to ordinary people, about giving them information to help them live the best life they can, and enabling them to make informed and wiser decisions and choices. She says “If I change one life, get one person the help they need every day… I’m fulfilled! My values are about respecting people around you and just simply being nice!”
She’s passionate about Charity and supports Rise Against Hunger. She plans fundraising and marketing events for them when she’s not on TV. Nutrition is the basic key to education and every cent raised goes towards meals for kids at ECD centres.
