Vusi Madonsela
Vusi Madonsela is director-general of the Department of Cooperative Governance, a position he has held since October 2012. He is a graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal Durban and an associate fellow of the School of Social Policy and Intervention of the University of Oxford (Green-Templeton College).
Vusi Madonsela is currently co-chairperson of the social sector cluster which coordinates work in the areas of comprehensive social security, social cohesion, comprehensive healthcare, housing and human settlements, quality basic education, food security and nutrition, and the social sector component of the Expanded Public Works Programme. He is an attorney admitted in the High Court of South Africa, and has extensive experience in drafting plain language legislation and legal opinions, while his litigation experience includes constitutional law and human rights. Madonsela serves as a member of the Bureau of the International Social Security Association and he has also served as a member of the Council of International Social Services. He is an active participant in the United Nations Commission for Social Development and serves as a trustee in non-governmental organisations associated with the plight of the poor and vulnerable.
