Xolo Phillip Kitso Phiri

Kitso Phillip Phiri has five years of experience in the labor and social justice movements in Botswana and southern Africa. He is a human rights legal practitioner. He works with the Botswana Centre for Human Rights and the Botswana Labour Migrants Association (BoLAMA), an organization he founded. At BoLAMA, he coordinates efforts advocating for the rights of former migrant mine-workers and their families. Kitso also sits on various boards, to share experiences and develop civil society in Botswana and beyond. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Botswana and a postgraduate certificate in Enterprise Risk Management from the Botswana Accountancy College. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, he intends to turn BoLAMA into a formidable organization with the capacity to examine, review, and implement regional and international mining standards and ensure national compliance.
