Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar

Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar is a trained lawyer, an accomplished administrator and businessman with vast experience at senior executive level in the Private and Public sectors. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Exeter, UK with a specialty in Financial Management.

He worked as a Graduate Assistant Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1987 to 1989, after which he set himself up in private legal practice in his home town Kaduna; under the name: Yusuf Abubakar & Co. (Equity Chambers).

He has also held several other high ranking positions such as: Commissioner for Health and Social Dev. Kaduna State- 1992 to 1994, Director General, Bureau for Lands and survey, Kaduna State 1994 to 1997. Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, 1998 to 1999 and Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Dev. Fund (PTDF)

He is a member of various professional organizations both national and international such as: the Nigeria Bar Association; International Law Societies, London and the International Bar Association. Others are; the International Association for Energy Economists, Society of Petroleum Engineers (Nigeria) and Society of Petroleum Engineering (International), Association of International Petroleum Negotiator (AIPN)

He is currently on the Board of many companies amongst which are, Niger Insurance Plc (D i rector), Nigerian C am m u n i cati on s Commission (Commissioner), Sahelian Energy and Integrated Service (Chairman), Sahelian Power SPV Limited owner of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (Member) and Northwest Power Limited preferred- bidder for Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Plc (Chairman).

Yusuf has received various honors including Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). He was appointed Board Chairman of Niger Insurance Plc in January, 2016.
