ZAPIRO
Cape Town based Jonathan Shapiro – better known as ‘Zapiro’ – is widely acknowledged as an important social commentator. He has consistently promoted human rights and democratic values during both the apartheid era and the democratic era in South Africa.
As well as being an editorial cartoonist who has appeared in many newspapers and in on-line platforms, Zapiro enjoys tailoring his presentations to the general theme of any particular corporate gathering. His talks include a power point presentation to enable his visual genius to be seen.
There are however, themes he has found over the years of particular interest to diverse groups. His cartoons, which have sparked controversial debate, censorship issues and law suits, take a satirically honest poke at the sacred cows, turning them into illustrated targets – and we all know what they say about “many a true word being spoken in jest”.
Zapiro has presented in Davos at the World Economic Summits as well as the WEF Africa Summits. He has also presented at the Design Indaba; The Prince Claus Fund (Netherlands); to the American Cartoonists Association at the Press Club Washington DC; a conference on Development Politics in Berlin; as well as cartooning events in Cameroon, Botswana, Australia and France.
Copies of his books are available to be bought as gifts for clients or sold at the event.
