Zikhona
Zikhona is a soulful pop artist who came
She was first recognized publicly when she entered the first season of Clash of the Choirs SA in 2013, representing the Gauteng 20-piece choir which ultimately claimed third place overall in the competition.
Zikhona’s passion for music started at a young age in Grahamstown in Eastern Cape where she was involved in local talent searches, school choir and ensembles and had the opportunity to tour to Europe in 2011 to perform in the International Cantus MM Music Festival organised in Salzburg, Austria.
She has also performed at the annual Grahamstown National Art’s Festival, sharing the stage with a local creative group Blah Ze Blah.
Born and raised in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, Zikhona Matriculated in 2011 at Victoria Girls’ High School, where her involvement in cultural activities fueled her passion for the arts, particularly music. She was no stranger in collecting awards at prize giving ceremonies, including being awarded full colours for excelling in singing and playing the marimba.
She moved to Johannesburg in 2012 to further continue her studies in the Information Technology field and graduated with a BSc Computer Science Degree from Pearson Institute, Midrand. She continued studying even further and has recently obtained a BSc Hons Degree in Information Systems Degree from Rhodes University.
After she was voted out of The Voice, Zikhona decided to take advantage of the momentum and exposure she’d gained from the period she was still in the competition and started doing live performances as an entertainment act at the Times Square Casino in Menlyn – this way she could use the platform to be discovered by clients who are interested in booking her to perform at their events, and possibly this can also aid in starting a fan base.
In just a few weeks after her journey came to an end on The Voice SA, she was approached by David Gresham Entertainment Group, with the intention of being a part of their exclusive artist roster. Zikhona caught the attention of executives at the label during her performances on The Voice SA – without wasting no time she informed her parents immediately and they were more than happy to support her decision. She was officially signed to recording label and publishing group in August, 2017 and has already started recording her debut single which is in preparation for release in a few weeks.
